I went together with my 2 friends. The foods were great. We enjoyed the fresh kaisendon with reasonable price. The only downside probably was the long waiting hour. We went there around the opening hour and got in the 3rd line of waiting list. Waited around 1 hour before finally entered the restaurant. However, they compensated us with free appetizers and served us very well. All in all, nice place to go.
Best restaurant in Nikko. Very fresh fish , uni from Hokkaido! This restaurant Better than Ritz Carlton Japanese restaurant .
Amazingly delicious and fresh fish, extremely nice hosts, and a very cozy and pleasant place.
Important notes:
1. Better arrive at least 1 hour before closure for lunch (and make reservation for dinner) - those who arrived later did not have place left.
2. Need to register your name upon arrival - and wait patiently to be admitted. The order of entrance is by this list - and as the hosts not well communicating it - it may be looked like you are being overlooked. Wait with patience - it worths it :)
It is the best restaurant in town. Super good price for super good quality and fresh food. The service was also super friendly. It was the only eatable restaurant in town so we went there 3 times in 2 days. The owners were super kind and the sushi chef made exquisite meals. If i come back to japan again i will go there again.
My tip is to make a table reservation because its busy all the time and not to big. Even if you think it is empty its getting full quite fast
delicious sushi! I tried so many sushi restaurants in Tokyo (sometimes even paying much more) and I've never tried something similar. Fat tuna nigiri (ootoro): amazing! Honest price. I hope to come back because it was a really good experience.
Lovely place serving great sushi and chirashi Don. The lady running the place was fully committed to making sure we enjoyed our food and she was full of energy, which made the atmosphere much more lively! She also speaks good English. Worth coming to if you're looking for a place to eat in the area.
(Big 5 stars)
Wonderful food and people who run the place.
Lucky to come across this restaurant on 1 May 23, girlfriend and I sat on high seat setting and enjoyed our meals.
After dining, lady chef even went ahead pointing and telling us about the ‘pink’ leaves trees that are on the opposite mountains. Really kind gestures.
Was a perfect day exploring beautiful Nikko.
We were visiting Nikko as a day trip on a whim, and saw this place on Maps and decided to check it out.
They're usually reservation-only for dinner, but they were able to let some people in since it's the off-season. Very lucky; otherwise we wouldn't have gotten to try it!
I had a chat with the lady at the counter. Her English was fine but a bit stilted; we conversed in Japanese to make it quicker.
They source their fish from Tsukiji in Tokyo, getting it brought in twice a day. Basically, great value for amazing food all the way up here in the mountains.
They will do some things off-menu, too. You can get tea served hot, they'll offer to switch out some of the types of fish if you prefer, etc.
Since they were not crowded, the staff was way more engaging than expected. It's more than just the food quality that makes this place awesome.
Would highly recommend, but don't be like us and try to walk in without reserving for dinner - it's apparently very rare for them to be able to accept people without reservations!
